Home strategies you can try tonight
Support doesn't end when a session does. Here are a few of the kinds of strategies we work through with families.
A Simple De-Escalation Loop
Reduce stimulus first (dim lights, lower your voice), offer a calming option (a cushion or quiet corner), then validate the emotion before problem-solving.
A Calmer Bedtime Wind-Down
A predictable, unhurried routine, warm lighting, and a few quiet minutes together before storytime can make a real difference to how bedtime goes.
Connection Before Correction
Before asking a child to stop an activity, get down to their eye level for a moment, acknowledge what they're doing, then transition together.

My child's school says they are “disruptive” or “unfocused”. Does this mean he has a learning disability?
Not necessarily. Behaviour is communication. What looks like disruption or laziness is often a child struggling with sensory overload, attention difficulties, or something else that hasn't been identified yet. An assessment helps us understand the actual cause, not just the label.
How do I know if my child needs an assessment or just more time to develop?
Every child develops at their own pace. But if you're seeing consistent struggles with speech, play, emotional regulation or schoolwork over time, it's worth having a conversation with us. Early support does not label a child, it equips them sooner.
Will my child's school accept your assessment and recommendations?
Our assessments and recommendations are written to be practical and usable by any school. We're happy to speak with your child's school directly to help put recommendations into practice.
